IGSL Membership for Senior Geologists

Many senior geologists of the GSSL are not members of the IGSL since they couldn’t submit their applications in 2009 when the request was called. According to the IGSL rules, anyone who is interested to get the IGSL membership should first become an associate member and then only  be eligible to apply for corporate membership after a period of three years. The Council of the IGSL understood that this clause in the IGSL rules is unfair for the senior geologist who was not able to send their applications in 2009, and therefore decided to amend the rules at the 4th AGM held on 24th March 2016 and further amended at 5th AGM 28th April 2o17. According to the rules amended, senior geologists with professional experience of more than 10 years can directly apply for the corporate membership of the IGSL.

Further to simplify eligibility criteria to admit cooperate members to the grade of “Chartered Geologist” Rule 14(2) was amended at the 5th AGM (28th April 2o17) “Be a Corporate Member for one (1) year of the Institute to apply for the chartership”.

Therefore, The Council request our senior members of the GSSL to make use of this opportunity if you are still  not a member of the IGSL. Please submit your application asp if you are interested. Application and other instructions can be downloaded from the IGSL website (http://www.igsl.lk). Prof. NP Ratnayake, the General Secretary of the IGSL, will provide more details if required.
